Courageous Parenting is a 10-week course designed to coach parents and educators through the challenges and opportunities of the adolescent years. The goal is to prepare participants for the changes ahead and strengthen their influence on pre-teens and teens.
This class is recommended for parents of children ages 9 and above, as well as teachers who work with this age group.
The course focuses on understanding rapid physical, emotional, and behavioral changes, helping participants distinguish normal behavior from unacceptable behavior and respond effectively. Key topics include anticipating transitions, understanding the teen worldview, analyzing common behaviors, adjusting parenting approaches, building self-esteem, influencing adolescents for good, managing conflict and rebellion, and setting healthy boundaries with gadgets and digital media.
The primary text is Courageous Parenting by David Hutchins, supplemented with team-developed materials and small group discussions to deepen learning.
Classes run for 10 weeks, meeting Saturday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., either live at the Raising Future Parents Office in Nairobi or online via Zoom. Participants receive the course book and are expected to complete weekly readings, self-reflection questions, and application projects.
